Dear Music Lovers and Supporters,
Our ninth offering is the second movement from Symphony No. 101 in D major (1793-1794) by Austrian composer Franz Josef Haydn from a concert by the BSO in October 2018. The symphony is also known as “The Clock” symphony because of the "ticking" rhythm throughout its second movement. The recording is on YouTube: BSO plays Haydn Symphony No. 101, 2nd or "Clock" Movement.
About the symphony, Maestro Fred Devyatkin writes, “A late work of Franz Josef from his collection of London Symphonies. His genius is in full bloom. This movement had the tick-tock that gave the Symphony its nickname The Clock. Less is more. Simplicity and clarity result in profundity. Enjoy!”
In a typical year, donations represent 55% of the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra budget. The remainder comes dominantly from ticket sales. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to suspend ticket sales until it is safe again to present symphonic performances to the Beaufort community. Donations help us financially to prepare for programming once things open up again. In addition, they provide positive, confirmatory evidence of community support for the BSO; support that improves morale and builds confidence during this time of uncertainty. Please, therefore, if you are able, a donation to the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra would help us to continue our mission. We are grateful for your consideration and generosity.
Sincerely,
Entire BSO Board & Musicians
