Dear Music Lovers and Supporters,
In memory of Arthur “Art” Tollefson, who died on Friday, July 24, 2020, our seventh offerings are recordings of the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in G Minor from a concert by the BSO in 2012 and the Beethoven Sonata in C Minor for Piano & Violin: Scherzo & Finale from 2014. Art was the piano soloist in the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto. Art played the piano with Fred Devyatkin in the Beethoven Sonata.
The recordings are on YouTube: BSO playing Mendelssohn Piano Concerto in G Minor and Beethoven Sonata in C Minor for Piano & Violin: Scherzo & Finale.
Art’s wife, Brenda, wrote,
“Friends, I am heartbroken to share with you that Art has passed away. His living with some undiagnosed issues, our 53 years together came to a relatively abrupt halt yesterday. ... Fortunately, Brian managed to get here from an aircraft carrier in time to spend a few hours with his dad who, surely, knew his son was holding him and talking in his ear. More information will be shared but I wanted you to know first. - Brenda”
Art was the pianist for the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra for many years. The BSO musicians, members and audience will miss him deeply.
Last week, we reported that Katie Devyatkin passed away. We have been asked how to send condolences to Fred. He has given us permission to give out his address, which is 509 E 50th Street, Savannah, GA 31345.
Sincerely,
Entire BSO Board & Musicians
