Dear Music Lovers and Supporters,
On Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 4:00 pm, the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra will perform its 2022 May concert “Romantic Blockbusters” at the Sea Island Presbyterian Church, 81 Lady’s Island Drive, Lady’s Island, SC 29907. This will be our final concert for the 2021-2022 season.
The program will include the Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26, composed by Max Bruch in 1866 as well as the Symphony No. 5 in D major/D minor, Op. 107, known as the “Reformation Symphony,” composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1830.
The violin soloist for the Bruch Violin Concerto will be Francis Tsai. Tsai won the First Prize at the 2019 Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition at the age of 13. Tsai’s performance is supported by the Prodigy Project, which was established by Bruce Kinsey to seek out and promote youthful virtuosos in performance with the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to this concert, the BSO is pleased to announce that four members of the Beaufort Symphony Youth Orchestra received superior ratings at the 2022 South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Solo and Ensemble Festival, which allows young musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a judge and obtain an assessment of their performance skills and abilities; the students do not compete against each other but perform for ratings. The four outstanding BSYO members are Eden Engel (10th grade, violin), Elyse Stromer (8th grade, violin), Kailyn Stromer (10th grade, viola) and Alex Lemstrom (5th grade, cello). Eden studies with Fred Devyatkin, Asako Kremer and Ami Rabinowitz while Elyse, Kailyn and Alex are all students of Ami Rabinowitz. Congratulations to the BSYO performers and their teachers for these superior ratings!
Please consider supporting the BSO’s 2021-2022 Season and the Prodigy Project by donating to the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra.
The Sea Island Presbyterian Church has limited parking. Please carpool if you can. And please do not park on the grass; this can kill the grass and break sprinkler heads. There will not be any concessions at the May “Romantic Blockbusters” concert.
Sincerely,
BSO Board and Musicians
